The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that, beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, March 1, the Route 93 bridge over Twelve Mile Creek in the Town of Porter will be closed to traffic, as the replacement of the bridge gets underway. Passenger vehicles will be directed to follow a posted detour along Dickersonville, Braley and Porter Center roads. Truck traffic will be directed to follow a truck detour along NY routes 18 and 425.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced eligible New Yorkers in Buffalo, Rochester, Albany and Yonkers areas can begin making appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the state-FEMA community-based vaccination sites scheduled to open Wednesday, March 3, in the four cities. The four vaccination sites will operate between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily and each site has the capacity to administer 1,000 doses per day.

The new program is an organized exchange system where members earn time for time spent helping other members in the community. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Tuesday announced a new cooperative agreement with the state comptroller's office; Niagara County; Orleans County; the cities of Lockport, Niagara Falls and North Tonawanda; and the Niagara Orleans Regional Land Improvement Corp. (NORLIC) to promote the redevelopment of dozens of potentially contaminated properties in Niagara and Orleans counties.

The BISON Children's Scholarship Fund announced a $3.5 million grant from the New York-based Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. This is the largest grant in BISON Fund history, and it allows the BISON Fund to expand its reach across Western New York and administer financial support through existing programs in Rochester and Syracuse.

Bicycle riders crossing either bridge will soon be greeted by directional signage sending them 12 miles through the South Parkway Bike Path, along the West River or an approximately 6-mile new temporary route through the center of town that will connect the Niagara Greenway Shoreline Trail's 37 miles from Lackawanna to Youngstown.

On Feb. 1, the Family Justice Center received a "ton of diapers, wipes, and other baby items" from the Ladies in Faith Together group of Saint Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church. In addition, the group donated $250, which the Family Justice Center requested to establish a new pantry for baby items.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a four-point plan to reduce sexual violence in educational institutions as part of the state's 2021 Women's Agenda. As part of this plan, the governor has directed SUNY and the state's Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence - a newly reimagined agency proposed by the governor in his 2021 State of the State - to establish an innovative hub to develop enforceable policies, trainings and outreach programs to combat and end sexual violence on college campuses.

The University at Buffalo Arts Collaboratory will launch a pioneering new incubator for artists across all disciplines on Feb. 27. Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced new, expanded guidelines for visitation of residents in nursing home facilities in accordance with CMS and CDC guidelines to begin Feb. 26. The New York State Department of Health recommends visitors take a rapid test before entry into the facility, and DOH will provide rapid tests to nursing homes to facilitate their ability to test visitors on-site and at no cost.
