Congressman Brian Higgins announced passage of S.910, the National Sea Grant College Program Amendments Act of 2020. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) supports university-based programs that focus on studying, conserving and effectively using U.S. coastal resources, including those in the Great Lakes region, through the National Sea Grant. The bill reauthorizes the Sea Grant College Program through 2025.

Nine industry experts were named to the Niagara University Center for Supply Chain Excellence's newly established board of advisers. Established in 2000, the Center for Supply Chain Excellence is a collaborative effort between the university's College of Business Administration and the local business community to promote regional education in all aspects of supply chain management.

The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) on Tuesday celebrated Older New Yorkers' Day virtually, recognizing 87 volunteers from across the state who "demonstrate their extraordinary value every day to their family, friends and community." The celebration traditionally takes place each year in May in Albany; however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year it was premiered as a virtual event.

The New York State Department of State on Tuesday announced the completion of a Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) project for Scenic Woods-Bicentennial Park in the Town of Grand Island. The completion of the nearly $600,000 project, which was funded in part with a $197,634 EPF LWRP grant, is helping to transform the town's waterfront into a vibrant destination with public spaces and amenities for residents and visitors.

More than 1,400 National Grid line, tree and service workers in Western New York are focused on public safety and are making steady progress in removing downed wires, trees, tree limbs, broken poles and other hazards, and restoring power after a severe wind storm swept across the region Sunday. Crews will continue to work around the clock on the labor-intensive cleanup and restoration efforts.

The New York State Department of State announced a new online application for the address confidentiality program (ACP) in which victims of domestic violence, stalking, sexual offenses and human trafficking can protect themselves from their perpetrators by getting a new undisclosed address. It said this online application will facilitate a swift and secure enrollment into the program for individuals who previously could only apply for the program via mail or fax.
