Distracted driving: It's not just talking and texting on your phone

In New York state, 99 people died in 96 distracted driving crashes in 2018, according to the latest data from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). AAA believes no life is worth losing to distraction. Focused drivers save lives. AAA urges all drivers to pay attention and focus on the road during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and all year long.

Obituary: Glen Gerspach

Glen Gerspach of Lockport - formerly of Grand Island - died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Cindy Gerspach; stepfather of Alexandra and Alicia Kurk; grandfather of Damien Wizner; brother of Darcy Swenson and Paul (Pam) Gerspach. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and was the son of the late Richard and Shirley Gerspach.

Cuomo announces actions to expand eligibility & ease access to food assistance for New Yorkers

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced actions aimed at reducing food insecurity among community college students, older adults and disabled New Yorkers. These actions include expanding Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program eligibility to up to nearly 75,000 low-income college students enrolled in career or technical education course work, and shortening the SNAP application for those on fixed incomes in an effort to encourage greater enrollment among eligible older adults and disabled individuals.

Arts Services Inc. was awarded $10,000 from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (MAAF) through the CARES Arts Organization Relief Grants program in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Small to mid-sized nonprofit arts organizations in MAAF's partner states, jurisdictions, and territories were eligible to apply through a competitive process for one-time, nonmatching grants of up to $20,000.
