Congressman Brian Higgins, New York State Sen. Tim Kennedy and members of the Western New York community came together to celebrate the military service of Carmelo Lopez-Febus. Private First Class Lopez-Febus was presented with the Congressional Gold Medal for serving in the 65th Infantry Regiment known as "The Borinqueneers" during the Korean War.

Old Fort Niagara beckons patrons back to the 18th century when soldiers in colorful uniforms walked the fort's walls and fur traders glided past the fort in birch-bark canoes. On Saturday and Sunday of Columbus Day Weekend, Oct. 10-11, the fort's staff and volunteers will present a variety of living history activities for visitors to enjoy from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced the state's Tenant Safe Harbor Act will be expanded until Jan. 1, 2021, to protect additional residential tenants from eviction if they are suffering financial hardship during the COVID-19 public health emergency. The executive order extends the protections of the Tenant Safe Harbor Act to eviction warrants that existed prior to the start of the pandemic.

Singer/Songwriter Andrew Farriss celebrates the 30th anniversary of the multi-Platinum-selling album "X," released on this day 30 years ago (Sept. 25, 1990) from the world-renowned band INXS. Farriss, a founding member of the band, played keyboard and provided backing vocals and other instrumentation. The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is holding a curbside Chiavetta's chicken dinner pick-up from 3-6 p.m. Friday Oct. 9. Dinners are $12 each in advance, and include Famous Chiavetta's Chicken, potato salad, coleslaw and a dinner. A portion of each dinner sold will help the museum to recover some of the lost event revenue the museum faces due to COVID-19.
