The new officers slate for 2020-21 includes Terry Cummings, president; John MacArthur, first vice president; Richard Allen, second vice president; John Rolfe, treasurer; Suzanne DeJoseph, recording secretary; and Debby Comerford, corresponding secretary.

The Lewiston Senior Club and Lewiston Travel Club announced this week their September meetings - typically held on the first Tuesday and Thursday of each month at the Lewiston Senior Center - have been moved to the first week in October with the site remaining closed due to COVID-19.

WNY 'SWAT' team results

On Thursday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the results of the state's "SWAT" team's focused testing effort in Western New York over the past five days. A total of 6,385 tests were performed at eight sites with results delivered in 15 minutes. A total of 266 positive cases were identified, for a positivity rate of 4.1%. Contact tracing efforts in partnership with local health departments are ongoing.

The New York State Division of Consumer Protection (DCP) and the Department of Public Service (DPS) are alerting consumers of a phone scam in which scammers, pretending to be from a utility company, call individuals and threaten to suspend electricity services unless they receive a payment immediately. Payment has been requested by means of untraceable services such as gift cards, including Green Dot cards and money transfer apps, including Cash App.
More than $1 million awarded to aid 22 East Side commercial property owners in Buffalo

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced more than $1 million has been awarded as part of the first round of grants being made through the East Side Commercial District Program, part of his East Side Corridor Economic Development Fund. Twenty-two awardees will each receive up to $50,000 in funding for exterior and/or interior repairs to commercial properties located within four targeted commercial districts on Buffalo's East Side.

NYSLRS announces employer contribution rates for retirement system for 2021-22

The New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS) recently announced employer contribution rates for the state fiscal year 2021-22 will increase from 14.6% to 16.2% of payroll for the Employees' Retirement System (ERS) and from 24.4% to 28.3% of payroll for the Police and Fire Retirement System (PFRS).
