University at Buffalo scientists exploring the nature of immunity after vaccination against Streptococcus pneumoniae, which causes pneumonia in people, have discovered that a specific type of white blood cell called neutrophils plays a more critical role than was previously known.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday was unanimously voted to serve as chair of the National Governors Association during the virtual 2020 summer meeting. Cuomo, who will become the longest-serving governor in the country next year, is also the first governor from New York to become NGA's chair - and the first "big state" governor to take the gavel in nearly 50 years.

Leaders from Erie and Niagara counties on Thursday cut the ribbon to reopen a section Tonawanda Creek Road in the Town of Clarence that has been closed since 2014. The project is part of the bicounty Tonawanda Creek slope stabilization and roadway reconstruction effort that also includes projects in the towns of Lockport and Pendleton.

Lewiston Lions donate to local food pantry, hosting PB&J drive

The Lewiston Lions understands local food pantries are under tremendous pressure, with increased demand and decreased donations. The club was able to make donations to several food pantry locations during quarantine: Care-N-Share (Inter Community Services), Word of Life Ministries and the Magdalene Project. In addition to a monetary donation, 40 face masks were also donated to the Word of Life Ministries for distribution to those who may need one.
