Cuomo: New York will decide on fall school reopening during first week of August; malls to reopen Friday

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced New York will decide whether schools will reopen in the fall during the first week of August. The state is now consulting with stakeholders on guidance, which will be finalized on July 13. Plans to reopen schools are due July 31.
Kim Pegula names Sinnarajah, McFarlane to leadership team

Jason Sinnarajah joins the Buffalo Bills as senior vice president of business administration, while Mike McFarlane has been named PSE senior vice president of finance and administration.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced that, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it will replace its annual live induction ceremony with an exclusive HBO special honoring this year's Inductees. The program will be available on HBO and to stream on HBO Max on Saturday, Nov. 7 (8 p.m. ET/PT), and will replace the live 35th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony that was originally scheduled for May 2 of this year.

National Grid asks customers to continue to reduce electricity use in Snyder, Amherst, Eggertsville & portions of Buffalo

National Grid is asking approximately 6,000 customers in parts of Snyder, Amherst, Eggertsville and in an area near the Buffalo VA Medical Center to continue to reduce unnecessary electricity use, as crews work around the clock to repair damaged electricity equipment at nearby substations. The request is being made as a precaution and includes a second outbound call to customers in the impacted areas requesting reduced usage.

It has been nearly four months since New York-based assisted-living communities closed to outside visitors and temporarily suspended in-community services like hair salons. As New York continues its phased reopenings, which now allow for outdoor dining, hair and nail services, assisted living residents are being forced to leave their communities to visit loved ones, and to receive services such as hair appointments - two freedoms typically allowed in assisted living communities, which provide a more independent model of long-term care.

A colorful new mural can be seen on the side of the Wine on Third building, located at 501 Third St., Niagara Falls, facing Ferry Avenue. The postcard-inspired mural, "Greetings from Niagara Falls," was conceived and painted by local freelance artist Paul Clifton. It was commissioned by the Downtown Niagara Falls Business Association (DNFBA) as a way to showcase Niagara County activities and welcome guests to Niagara Falls USA.

Cuomo: 3 more states added to quarantine list

Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced three additional states meet the metrics to qualify for the travel advisory requiring individuals who have traveled to New York from those states, all of which have significant community spread, to quarantine for 14 days. The newly added states are Delaware, Kansas and Oklahoma.

The State University of New York at Fredonia announced construction is starting on its first solar/battery project, enabling the Chautauqua County campus in Western New York to lead by example in reducing its carbon footprint with innovative energy efficiency and renewable energy technology. The New York Power Authority, as the campus' energy adviser, is overseeing the project. Selected in a competitive bidding process, the state's strategic partners Oriden, a Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems venture, and Solar Liberty are providing a turnkey installation for the solar-plus-storage solution, from concept to design, installation and financing.

New York state previously directed all school districts to develop reopening plans. A decision on whether to reopen schools in September has not been made yet.
