Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday announced he issued an executive order to help relieve the economic impact of COVID-19 on workers and assure school aid for schools that have been directed to close. As part of the governor's executive order, the state will waive the seven-day waiting period for workers to claim unemployment insurance for those that have been put out of work by COVID-19.

On Friday, Supervisor Don MacSwan told the Tribune the Town of Wheatfield has adjusted its employee policy in response to COVID-19. During a novel coronavirus briefing Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced New York state will contract with 28 private labs to increase testing capacity for the novel coronavirus. Following a call with the 28 labs, the governor announced he has instructed the labs to begin testing immediately as soon as they are ready. The 28 labs are specialized in virology and are routine partners with the New York State Department of Health.

Old Fort Niagara will mark Women's History Month with a brand-new program and special access to its sewing studio from 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, for "Fort Niagara's Women of Distinction." The program will feature four women from the fort's past, each representing different time periods, ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds, and wearing period-specific clothing currently being sewn in the fort's sewing studio.
