Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper is a 30-year-old nonprofit, presiding over an area of some of the most memorable waterways in the world. It's not just Niagara Falls, the Great Lakes Erie and Ontario, rivers Niagara and Buffalo. It also encompasses the groundwater, the creeks, the riverbeds and tributaries, all of which are part of the greater Buffalo Niagara watershed.

"At this time, Niagara County has four voluntarily quarantined individuals. Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of well people, who may have been exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick. These public health actions are precautionary in nature and follow all CDC guidance. We will continue to provide information as the situation warrants."

As New Yorkers prepare to set their clocks forward one hour this Sunday (Daylight Saving Time), the Firemen's Association of the State of New York is urging everyone to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Homeowners with alarms that have sealed, non-removable batteries should test the alarms to see if they are functional.

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Foundation Inc., the nonprofit corporation established to provide oversight for the BPO's endowment fund, announced the re-election of John Zak to an additional one-year term as chair, and the election of Aleks Spellman and Holly Hejmowski as new directors for a three-year term. Additionally, Spellman was elected to serve as secretary and Hejmowski was elected as treasurer. Karen Arrison, John Yurtchuk and Michael Wurst will continue to serve on the board.

The New York Department of State announced the availability of $4.5 million in federal grant funding for economic and community development within New York's northern border region. The grant funding is available to communities within New York's 28 federally designated northern border regional commission counties. The NBRC is a regional economic development partnership between federal and state government, which includes portions of the states of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

During a novel coronavirus briefing, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo today signed into law a $40 million emergency management authorization for New York's novel coronavirus response. This appropriation will allow the state to hire additional staff and procure equipment and any other resources necessary to respond to the evolving situation.

Eastern Niagara Hospital was selected as one of six hospitals across the nation to participate in a national pilot funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation and Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation to address elder mistreatment in emergency departments. ENH's participation, funded by a grant through the Health Foundation for Western & Central New York, will enable ENH to serve as one of six pilot sites in the U.S. to facilitate and study the feasibility of an elder mistreatment emergency department care model.
