Niagara County: Jastrzemski, Wydysh say residents should consider passports to fly

Niagara County Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski and Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Rebecca Wydysh today said Niagara County residents should strongly consider getting passports rather than rely on New York state driver's licenses to meet the TSA requirements for REAL ID for all domestic flights that takes effect on Oct. 1. The new rules require every traveler 18 years of age an older to have at minimum a REAL-ID-compliant driver's license to fly within the U.S.
NIH awards UB $21.7 million to continue Buffalo's rapid trajectory growing its health care & research sectors

The University at Buffalo has been awarded a five-year, $21.7 million clinical and translational science award (CTSA) from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences of the National Institutes of Health in recognition of the dramatic progress UB and its partners have made since 2015 when UB first received the CTSA. NIH announced the funding today.
Office of Mental Health: $45,000 award to Erie County Anti-Stigma Coalition

The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) has awarded a $45,000 grant to the Erie County Anti-Stigma Coalition to expand its awareness campaign, "Join the Conversation," into Niagara County. The coalition's campaign promotes mental health awareness and fights the stigma surrounding mental illness, which can be a barrier preventing people from seeking the help and treatment they need.

Drew Bernstein is a missionary at St. Luke's Mission of Mercy on Buffalo's East Side. He is also the coordinator of its Code Blue initiative when up to 50 cots and bedding are rolled out for homeless men to escape the winter cold at night when the temperatures are below freezing. It is a place where these men can obtain a hot meal and breakfast in the morning, dry their clothing and hopefully, a good night's sleep in a safe environment.

New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) announced final submission deadlines for outstanding eligibility documents required to process priority homeowner applications submitted for the 2019 Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Flood Relief and Recovery Program. The request for documents applies only to homeowners who submitted applications in priority categories during the eligible application periods. New applications are not being accepted.

The New York State Public Service Commission on Thursday adopted terms of a joint proposal - first announced by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo - with New York State Electric & Gas Corp. and Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. that would settle the companies' liability for alleged violations stemming from the companies' failure to adequately prepare for winter and spring storms in 2018. Under the terms of the agreement, the companies would pay $10.5 million from shareholder funds, to be allocated $9 million to NYSEG and $1.5 million to RG&E.
