Higgins welcomes action on 'long-overdue' pilot records database, urges administration to work swiftly toward full implementation

The Town of Grand Island received a farmland protection planning grant from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets in late 2018 and since that time the town's Agriculture and Farming Planning Committee has been working on developing a resource guide with local consultants. This guide aims to provide greater clarification on what constitutes agriculture on the Island along with goals for the future of farming in the community.

Buffalo Sabres training camp to open Sept. 12

The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team will open its main training camp on Thursday, Sept. 12, when veteran players are scheduled to report for testing and physicals. Training camp will be held primarily at KeyBank Center, with sessions on Sunday, Sept. 15, Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27 open to the public.
Higgins & Kennedy: $10.6 million in new funding for rehab of Ohio Street lift bridge

Congressman Brian Higgins and New York State Sen. Tim Kennedy were joined by community leaders to announce $10.625 million in new funding for renovation to the Ohio Street lift bridge. The recent allocation, through the Federal Highway Administration's National Highway Freight program with matching funds through New York state, is in addition to $5.23 million in previously allocated federal and state transportation funds, providing a total investment of $15.855 million for the Buffalo infrastructure project.

It started nine years ago when Jesse Gooch, owner of Painters Plus and a Niagara County legislator, decided to use his business to do some good for the community. Gooch noticed there were several houses in the community that needed an exterior paint job. Painters Plus handled jobs on similar houses and it was like a lightbulb went on. Gooch's business had all the supplies and the know-how to paint any of these houses.

During the recent United Way "Day of Caring," M&T Bank showed its hometown pride by again having the largest representation of volunteers - approximately 450 employees across 21 job sites, representing nearly 14% of the total "Day of Caring" volunteer force. During the day's activities, Buffalo Bills legends Jim Kelly and Darryl Talley made guest appearances as a special "thank you" to M&T and other volunteer groups.
Old Fort Niagara site of naturalization ceremony

A naturalization ceremony took place Wednesday morning at Old Fort Niagara for 20 new U.S. citizens. Individuals from 11 different countries, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, Canada, China, Congo (Kinshasa), Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Liberia and Vietnam, took their oaths of allegiance from U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer, U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York.
