Call for applications: Trump administration to support community revitalization, local food initiatives

In support of the Trump Administration's executive order on promoting agriculture and rural prosperity in America, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced an opportunity to apply for technical assistance for communities interested in revitalizing neighborhoods through development of local food systems. The assistance will be provided through the Local Foods, Local Places (LFLP) program.

Erie County Fair opens

The 180th Erie County Fair will officially open to the general public at noon on Wednesday. There will be a short ceremony beginning at 11:40 a.m. at the historic McKinley Parkway gate. The program will also include remarks by venue officials, introduction of the 2019 "Ultimate Fairgoer," and a flurry of fireworks at noon. The national anthem will be performed by the Erie County Fair Marching Band.
$100,000 grant awarded to Family Promise of Western New York

Family Promise of Western New York, an emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness, has been awarded $100,000 from the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance's Homeless Housing and Assistance Program. The award completes a $200,000 capital campaign the organization has been fundraising over the past year for critical upgrades to its emergency shelter for families.

This year's honorees are Georgia Robinson Bradberry, Jane Schroeder, Don King and Laurie Davis (posthumously). Jasiah Jackson will be honored with the inaugural GenNext Award, which was established to recognize outstanding youth age 18 and under for exemplary service to the community.

The series is a chronology of the civil rights movement as told from a black woman's point of view, with the first season centered on Mamie Till, who devoted her life to seeking justice in her son Emmett's name following his brutal murder in the Jim Crow South.

ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke announced ABC has secured the rights to Mitchell Zuckoff's bestselling book "Fall and Rise: The Story of 9/11." In order to commemorate and honor the 20th anniversary of the events of Sept. 11, the network will develop a limited series based on the Harper Collins book in 2021. The series will be produced by Lionsgate and 3 Arts Entertainment and executive produced by Erwin Stoff and Richard Abate of 3 Arts as well as Mitchell Zuckoff.
