The Chromatic Club of Buffalo will hold its spring concert on Sunday, May 5, at the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, 505 Cayuga St. The event will begin at 3 p.m., and refreshments will be served following the performance of classical music and show tunes.

The Grand Island Lions Club will hold the 50th annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the Special Kids Picnic from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 29, in the ballroom of Radisson Grand Island, 100 Whitehaven Road. The menu includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad and Italian bread. Money from the event will support the annual Special Kids Picnic in July.

As part of the recent "Shop Hop" event in Lewiston, the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce held a contest to name the Easter Bunny. More than 70 entries were submitted. The Chamber of Commerce staff had a hard time deciding what name would be best. After much consideration, the winning name is "Mary Hoppins."

Congressman Brian Higgins and Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz were joined by Buffalo City Court Judge Craig Hannah to announce a new federal grant to expand services and support for Buffalo Opioid Intervention Court (OIC) participants. The $2 million award to the Erie County Department of Mental Health, provided through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, brings a community care management model of services to the court. It will expand the court's ability to serve more people.

Congressman Brian Higgins was joined by VA Western New York Healthcare System Executive Director Michael J. Swartz and Associate Chief of Staff for research and professor of medicine, anesthesiology and environmental health at the University of Buffalo Dr. Ali El-solh, to announce federal grants from the Department of Veterans Affairs supporting three separate research projects at the Buffalo VA Medical Center. The three grants represent a total of $2,413,635 in funding awarded to the Buffalo VA.
