New York Sea Grant (NYSG) and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will present the annual state of Lake Erie meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at the Southtowns Walleye Association Club House, 5895 Southwestern Boulevard, Hamburg. The event is open to the public and is held in cooperation with Assemblyman Sean Ryan and the Southtowns Walleye Association of WNY.

Pinnacle Community Services announces "Paint the County Blue," a child abuse prevention awareness initiative to commemorate April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The agency will hold three painting parties across Niagara County, and will also distribute "Pinwheels for Prevention" to anyone interested in displaying a pinwheel to show their support for child abuse prevention.

The Erie County Agricultural Society on Thursday announced Kane Brown was added to the 2019 Gusto Grandstand lineup at the 180th Erie County Fair. This week, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) issued a document identifying hundreds of military construction projects subject to cancellation to free up resources to help pay for the president's border wall. Democrat Congressman Brian Higgins is continuing to object to the emergency declaration, which Higgins said would pull billions of dollars from projects supporting the military, including potentially a $14 million training and fitness center at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.
