Signs of the area's celebrating have begun to appear. From last weekend's Shamrock Run with 4,300 participants in Buffalo's Old First Ward neighborhood, to those Irish flags popping up on street poles, glowing shamrocks appearing in area businesses and more, the St. Patrick's celebrations are heating up.

Republican New York State Sen. Rob Ortt is calling for the U.S. Senate to confirm U.S. International Joint Committee nominees. Likewise, GOP U.S. Rep. Chris Collins has led a letter calling on the U.S. Senate to approve President Donald Trump's nominees to the IJC, which oversees all waters between the U.S. and Canada. Currently, the IJC is "in limbo," Collins' camp said, because it only has two of its six commissioners in office. A quorum of four is necessary to conduct business.
