Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz has introduced a resolution that would provide a temporary extension of the interest-free period to pay Erie County property taxes by 90 days after the end of the furlough period for individuals furloughed by the federal government or non-pay federal employees due to a period of a lapse in discretionary appropriations by the federal government. The resolution will be considered by the Erie County Legislature today.

Icy temperatures cut electric vehicle range nearly in half

As freezing temperatures plague much of the country, electric vehicle owners may experience a decrease in driving range, compounded by the use of the vehicle's interior climate control. New research from AAA reveals that, when the mercury dips to 20°F and the HVAC system is used to heat the inside of the vehicle, the average driving range is decreased by 41 percent. This means that, for every 100 miles of combined urban/highway driving, the range at 20°F would be reduced to 59 miles.
