The North Tonawanda Department of Youth, Recreation and Parks reported last week that permits for park shelters would be issued beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Norman Keller Building, 500 Wheatfield St. Permits are issued to North Tonawanda residents only.

For Brigette Callahan and Kristin Warham, their dream of creating a book about their love of Buffalo came true.
The book, "Buffalo From A to Z, Come Take a Tour With Me," is a bright, colorful, 54-page guide around the City of Buffalo.

The Village of Lewiston Recreation Department is sponsoring a youth three-on-three basketball tournament starting at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at the Red Brick Municipal Building gym, North Fourth and Onondaga streets. Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz on Monday signed an amendment to Local Law 2 (2014), the county social host law, which has now been strengthened to include the known abuse of drugs on a property as a violation of the law, along with known underage drinking. The amended law targets individuals who are 21 years of age or older and knowingly allow the consumption of alcohol or drugs by a minor in their home or other privately owned property.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced New York State Police will increase patrols to crack down on impaired driving through the end of the year. The enforcement detail is part of the national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, which runs through Tuesday, Jan. 1. Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints, along with more State Troopers, on roadways during this campaign.
