National Safety Council brings opioid memorial to Buffalo as part of nationwide tour

On Monday, the National Safety Council made Buffalo the fourth stop on a nationwide tour of its exhibit, "Prescribed to Death: A Memorial to the Victims of the Opioid Crisis," by unveiling the exhibit inside the Honda Pavilion at Canalside.

Buffalo Sabres season ticketholders have a new option for sharing season ticket packages beginning this season. The Sabres have partnered with "SplitSeasonTickets," a new online platform that makes it easier for fans to share season tickets by finding partners, efficiently dividing tickets between them, and managing and tracking their supply.

The 10th annual "Kids of the Kingdom" fundraiser, to support the summer youth programs at St. Luke's Mission of Mercy, will be held from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Erie Italian Club, 3200 South Park Ave., Lackawanna. This year's event will feature an old-fashioned Italian picnic and will be hosted by Gino Grasso and former Buffalo Sabres star Danny Gare.

Guided by New York State Police Staff Inspector Steven Nigrelli, the final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run made its way through the streets of Stirling, as the Flame of Hope was carried into the European Special Olympics Games as part of their 40th anniversary opening ceremony.

Recently, Alec Adams, of North Tonawanda, was honored by the National Society of High School Scholars. Adams, a senior at Canisius High School, was recognized as one of the top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment. The announcement was made by NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prize.

U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced Monday that Dakkar Young, 23, of Tonawanda, who was convicted of distribution of child pornography, was sentenced to serve 168 months in prison and lifetime supervised release by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.
