In 2017, more than 10,600 megawatts (MW) of solar power were installed in the U.S. Solar Liberty, a Buffalo-based solar installer, has been recognized by Solar Power World magazine for its contributions to the industry: The company achieved a national ranking of 58 out of 450 solar companies on the magazine's 2018 Top Solar Contractors list. This ranking also places Solar Liberty as the No. 1 top solar contractor in New York.

On Thursday, the Erie County Legislature approved Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns' request for funding to make significant upgrades to technology at the clerk's office. The resolution passed the legislature 10-1, and approved the spending of $134,519 for technology and seating upgrades.

Beaver Island State Park announced members of the WNY Disc Golf Club will offer a clinic for beginner and recreational disc golfers looking to improve their game. Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center recently donated two intensive care hospital beds to the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity motherhouse at Stella Niagara in Lewiston. Fifty-two sisters, half of whom receive skilled nursing and assisted living care, live at Stella Niagara.

The Niagara Wine Trail will sponsor the annual Niagara USA Wine Festival in Lewiston's Academy Park on Saturday and Sunday, July 28-29. It will be the 10th annual wine festival in Lewiston, promoting the local wineries in Niagara, Orleans and Monroe counties along the Niagara Wine Trail USA. The festival will run from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon until 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Erie County Auto Bureau, located at 2309 Eggert Road, Tonawanda, will begin Saturday hours of operation this weekend. The northtowns auto bureau will be the second office in Erie County to be open on Saturdays, with the Cheektowaga Auto Bureau also offering Saturday service.
