Award-winning journalist Katie Couric returns to NBC to co-host the opening ceremony for the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, it was announced Wednesday by Jim Bell, president, NBC Olympics production and programming. She will join host Mike Tirico in the booth at PyeongChang Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony, which will air in primetime, Friday, Feb. 9, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC.

Artpark & Company announced Wednesday that The Decemberists (May 26) will perform in a Mainstage Theater event presented by Funtime. Additionally, a co-headlining bill featuring Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats + The Head and The Heart (June 2) will be part of the Coors Light Concerts Series at the Artpark Outdoor Amphitheater, co-presented by Artpark and Funtime.

Executive Director Sonia Clark has announced a casting call for a new musical production of "The Odyssey" will take place from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at The Kavinoky Theatre on the D'Youville Campus. It's expected the show will feature more than 100 people.

It was a relatively normal day for Buffalo resident Kenneth Lidge as he was nearing the Niagara Falls Airport as a passenger on an Allegiant Airlines flight coming from Tampa to Niagara Falls. Lidge was relaxing in his seat as he returned to Western New York from a cruise.

On Tuesday, New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman led a coalition of 22 attorneys general in filing a multistate lawsuit to block what he called the Federal Communications Commission's illegal rollback of net neutrality. The coalition filed a petition for review in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, formally commencing the lawsuit against the FCC and the federal government.

Congressman Chris Collins, R-NY-27, on Tuesday introduced legislation that would create a national federal registry of communications infrastructure to help address the lack of high-speed internet access in rural areas. This registry will help determine which assets are available for lease to better expand access, and will facilitate coordination between federal, state and local governments, as well as between carriers.

As a teacher and a coach at Niagara-Wheatfield, coach Steve Miller has a lot that he has to take care of. Miller also has a family, which he cares for dearly. This summer, though, he was dealt a tough blow.
Miller's wife, Krista, was diagnosed with breast cancer this past summer for the second time and he's been at the forefront taking care of his family. Along with that, he continues to help coach the Niagara-Wheatfield boys basketball team, which his son Cam Miller also plays for. The team has been nothing but supportive for the family, knowing what their coach and teammate is going through.
