Future USS Little Rock LCS 9 to arrive in Buffalo earlier than expected

The crew of the US Navy's newest littoral combat ship, the future USS Little Rock LCS 9, is taking that saying seriously. Originally scheduled to arrive at Canalside in Buffalo on Friday, Dec. 8, the ship is now scheduled to arrive four days early, at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4.

One Buffalo community blood drive visits KeyBank Center Dec. 4

Unyts and Pegula Sports and Entertainment have teamed up to host a One Buffalo community blood drive from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at the Lexus Club inside KeyBank Center. This event will provide members of the Western New York community with a chance to give the "Gift of Life" this holiday season. Participants will also be able to register as organ donors, and learn more about the value of transplantation.

Niagara University students support needy families through Giving Tuesday

While most college students were sound asleep Tuesday morning, Justin Crawford woke up early to volunteer at Community Missions of Niagara Frontier. By 6:15 a.m., the Niagara University junior and several of his peers were clad in hairnets and gloves, cooking breakfast for guests of the Niagara Falls-based nonprofit, which serves homeless individuals and families.

Community Missions' week of giving begins

As part of the global Giving Tuesday initiative, local establishments have teamed with the agency to provide needed funds for the less fortunate. Rainforest Café will donate 10 percent of its sales to Community Missions on Tuesday, Nov. 28, while TGI Friday's will do the same on Wednesday, Nov. 29. On Friday, Dec. 1, Power City Eatery will donate in the same fashion, as will Third Street Retreat on Saturday, Dec. 2. Lewiston's Village Bake Shoppe will also donate $1 for each "Cake in a Cup" sold throughout the week.

Old Fort Niagara invites the public to experience the holiday spirit in the company of 18th century-style merrymakers at this season's "Castle by Candlelight" tours on Dec. 9 and 16. Music, crafts, demonstrations and more will make the French Castle, decorated by the Youngstown Garden Club, brim with festivities.
