At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post No. 7487 and American Legion C.C. Kenney Lewiston Post 1083 gathered together at the eternal flame in Academy Park to pay tribute to those who fought for and died for this country.

Lewiston No. 1 Volunteer Fire Co. and local first-responders were on site at the 500 block of Center Street before 10:30 a.m. Saturday, responding to a call of sparks, fraying and smoke coming from a basement electrical panel. The building's ground level is home to Cool Smiles (dental office of Dr. Anthony DeLuke), Chéri Amour, Salon Jule and Antique to Chic.
New Tim Hortons opens

Monday marked the grand-opening of a new Tim Hortons, located at Witmer and Military roads in the Town of Niagara, just south of Reservoir State Park. It's the seventh Tim Hortons to be opened by owner Robert Burns, with other locations in Niagara Falls and the Town of Niagara.

Christmas activities coming to Town of Niagara

On Friday, Nov. 24, the Town of Niagara will host "Noel at Niagara" in Veterans Memorial Community Park, 7000 Lockport Road. The holiday festival, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., will include musical entertainment featuring Bob Volkman, fireworks and the official flipping of the switch on the holiday light display in the park.

The Town of Niagara Lions and Lioness Clubs will honor the nation's veterans Saturday, Nov. 11, with a special ceremony at the new memorial in Veterans Memorial Community Park, 7000 Lockport Road in the Town of Niagara. The ceremony was previously held at Veterans Park at the intersection of Lawson and Bellreng drives, but has been moved to the new location on Lockport Road.

In the lone race in the Town of Niagara, councilmen Marc Carpenter and Charles Teixeira were re-elected to the Town Board by the citizens on Tuesday. Carpenter, Teixeira and Donald Schildhauer ran for the two seats on the board, with Carpenter netting the most votes at 1,015 (45 percent). Teixeira racked up 764 votes (34 percent), while Schildhauer finished third with 501 votes (22 percent).

Shelter in place lifted in Town of Niagara

Earlier Thursday afternoon, citizens in the Town of Niagara on Grauer Road were asked by police to shelter in place due to a police incident. The first word is the incident ended with an arrest. Also, nobody was hurt in the incident. According to nyalert.gov, the shelter in place was cancelled at 1:31 p.m. and citizens were able to resume normal activities.

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) today announced the availability of funding to establish or expand services for youth and young adults in recovery from addiction. Up to $180,000 is being made available through a series of mini-grants, which will be administered by the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene and OASAS.
