As Daylight Savings Time comes to an end on Nov. 5, the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) urges all citizens to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure their homes are properly prepared for an emergency. Alarms equipped with either removeable or sealed-in batteries both need to be tested. Removeable batteries should be replaced, and sealed-in batteries should be checked to confirm they are functioning.

While many motorists will enjoy an extra hour of sleep, they need to be aware of the time change and potential distractions to their normal routine. There are added dangers that can come as a result of a time change, especially behind the wheel.
