Taste of Buffalo presented by TOPS announces 2017 restaurants, food trucks & wineries

The Taste of Buffalo presented by TOPS has announced the complete lineup of restaurants, food trucks and wineries that will participate in the 2017 food festival, which takes place July 8-9 in downtown Buffalo. Sixty-one restaurants will be on site this year along with six New York state wineries.

The third annual Red Nose Day took place Thursday, concluding a six-week campaign of activity across the country. The campaign raised at least $35 million to help children in need, and has now raised more than $95 million in its first three years in the U.S. The donation total was calculated after the broadcast finished airing on the West Coast.

Erie County summer youth employment program ready to hire

The Erie County Department of Social Services has announced the Buffalo Urban League ("BUL"), in partnership with Catholic Charities, has been awarded a contract to administer the county's summer youth employment program. SYEP provides income-eligible youth between the ages of 14 and 20 with paid summer employment for eight weeks (July 10 through Sept. 1). To be eligible, the youth must have a family income below 200 percent of the federal poverty level ($49,200 for a family of four).
DEC asks anglers to avoid spawning lake sturgeon while fishing in New York waters

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is asking anglers to avoid spawning lake sturgeon in New York's Great Lakes waters, Great Lakes connecting channels, and tributaries of the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence River, Finger Lakes, and Oneida Lake. Typically during this time of year, DEC receives multiple reports of lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) caught by anglers fishing for walleye and other species.
