Gunman pleads guilty for fatally shooting victim on Buffalo's lower west side

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced Raymond J. Torres, 36, of no permanent address, pleaded guilty this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi to one count of manslaughter in the first degree (class “B” violent felony). The defendant entered the plea to the charge in full satisfaction of the indictment.

On Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at approximately 4:22 a.m., the defendant shot the victim with an illegal gun in the vicinity of 7th and Jersey streets in the City of Buffalo. The victim, 35-year-old Travis A. Martin, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he was later pronounced dead.

Torres faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced. He remains held without bail.

Keane commends Det. Judy Walker and Det. Adam Stephany of the Buffalo Police Department for their work on this case.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Justin H. Caldwell of the homicide bureau.
