It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, Eleanor Rosemond Whelan, who died peacefully June 8, 2025.
She is now at rest with our father, Michael Louis Whelan, whom she missed dearly since his passing in 2020.
Eleanor Charles was born in Elmira on July 18, 1936. She was an exceptional cook, an avid gardener, and artist of beautiful oil paintings. With a friend, she opened Orange Daisy, a children’s clothing store, the first of its kind, in Cazenovia.
Eleanor won several golf and tennis championships at the Niagara Falls Country Club and made two hole-in-ones. She was the founder of the Rice Memorial High School girl’s tennis team in Burlington, Vermont.
She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the AJLI, and she was most proud to be a Silver Life Master in bridge.
Eleanor and Michael took many sailing trips all over the world, but their favorite trip was to vacation with the family on Martha’s Vineyard.
She is survived by her children: Kim, Val, Susan, Chris and Michael; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
