Tickets go on sale July 18
Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino Press Release
Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino will present two remarkable evenings of song when it welcomes Broadway legend Jennifer Holliday to the Bear’s Den Showroom at 8 p.m. Friday, and Saturday, Nov. 14-15. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, and start at $55.
Holliday landed her first Broadway role at 18 – on the same day she auditioned. Her debut performance, in “Your Arms Are Too Short to Box with God,” earned her wide acclaim, including a 1981 Drama Desk Award nomination. It also positioned her for the role that would catapult her career. In 1981, Holliday originated the role of Effie Melody White in the smash hit musical “Dreamgirls,” drawing rave reviews. She took home a Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, a Drama Desk Award and a Theatre World Award for her performance.
Holliday also received a Grammy Award for her show-stopping rendition of “And I am Telling You I’m Not Going.” A pop version of the song was released as a single in 1982 and charted on both the Billboard R&B (No. 1) and Billboard Hot 100 (No. 22) charts. She had additional recording success with her singles “I Am Love,” “Hard Time for Lovers,” “No Frills Love,” “I’m On Your Side,” and won a second Grammy Award for her rendition of Duke Ellington’s “Say You Love Me.”
Holliday has performed to sold-out theaters and concert halls around the world, performed at the White House multiple times, and has recorded with the likes of Barbara Streisand, Luther Vandross and Paul Simon. In addition to her stage and recording work, Holliday also appeared in popular television programs, including “Ally McBeal,” “Touched By An Angel,” “American Idol” and “The Masked Singer,” among others.
