The Niagara County Office for the Aging will be distributing farmers market coupon booklets this weekend at the farmers markets in Lockport and North Tonawanda. The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, provided by the state Department of Agriculture and Markets, provides these coupons to all who meet age and income requirements to buy fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets throughout New York.

To qualify for coupons, seniors must be 60 years of age and be within monthly income guidelines of $2,413 for a one-person household; $3,261 for a two-person household; or $4,109 for a three-person household. Coupon booklets have a $25 value and can only be used at authorized farmers markets.

“We very much encourage seniors across Niagara County who qualify to take advantage of these coupons to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from our local farmers,” said Darlene DiCarlo, director of the Office for the Aging. “We have already distributed close to 2,000 coupon books and they are going fast.”

The coupons will be distributed this Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lockport Community Farmers Market, 69 Canal St.; and from 8 a.m. until noon at the North Tonawanda Farmers Market, 310 Robinson St.

Coupons are also available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, at the OFA office, 111 Main St., Lockport. Please note you can only receive coupons once per year.
