On Friday, the New York State Department of Transportation announced, "Cayuga Drive will be closed to through traffic, and the detour will be in effect on weekends, as well as weekdays, for the remainder of construction. The Mental Health Association in Niagara County is having its annual meat raffle fundraiser on Saturday, March 21, at St. Johnsburg Firehall, 7165 Ward Road, North Tonawanda. Doors open at 5:45 p.m., with the first draw at 6:30 p.m. The meat raffle is the agency's main fundraiser.

Niagara County Legislator Shawn Foti reminds residents that the county has begun accepting reservations for picnic shelters in county parks for this summer. The county operates five parks: Krull, Oppenheim, Royalton Ravine, West Canal Marina and Burmaster at Bond Lake. Boaters can also reserve boat slips at West Canal Marina.

A ticket due to garbage-related violations may become more likely as officials look toward changes in the Town of Wheatfield town code. The new law would allow constables to write tickets for violations such as leaving out garbage totes or illegal dumping.

On March 5, at approximately 8:40 a.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communication center received a 911 call reporting a fire inside of a garage at 2406 Niagara Road. All residents were able to safely evacuate the garage and residence prior to patrol's arrival. Personnel and equipment from multiple fire companies arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire.
