57th annual Olcott Polar Bear swim set for Sunday, March 1, 2026

Press Release

As fundraising becomes increasingly challenging for Western New York nonprofits, the Olcott Polar Bear Swim, New York state’s oldest continually operated charity swim, is expanding its mission.

This year’s swim introduces the “One Plunge – Countless Causes” initiative, inviting every registered WNY nonprofit and charitable cause – especially those without major brand recognition – to fundraise, gain visibility, and rally supporters through one high-energy community event to create an annual celebration of the work done by volunteers and the causes each year.

Held Sunday, March 1, 2026, the Olcott Polar Bear Swim will transform from a single-benefit fundraiser into a shared platform for community giving, allowing nonprofits to recruit an individual, team or community leader to plunge on their behalf – and turn excitement into impact.

“Many nonprofits are doing critical work without the attention or resources they deserve,” said Aaron Dey, swim chair for the Olcott Lions. “One plunge – countless causes gives every organization a simple, fun, and proven way to raise funds and tell their story – while strengthening a community tradition that benefits us all. Oh, it’s also a H-U-G-E costume party and contest, so dress the part.”

The initiative is designed to grow participation in the swim while creating a practical, accessible fundraising opportunity for nonprofits across the region.
