Over the years, the Highway Department's approach to drainage maintenance has largely been reactive rather than proactive. Due to limited staffing, efforts have primarily focused on cleaning areas only after complaints have been received. While this has addressed immediate concerns, it has not provided our residents with a long-term solution to the growing drainage and flooding challenges facing our community.

Syracuse hosting hoop exhibition game vs. Niagara University at KeyBank Center

Syracuse is hosting a men's basketball exhibition game against Niagara on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. at KeyBank Center in Buffalo. It marks the second consecutive season the Orange have played at KeyBank Center. Last October, Syracuse hosted Buffalo in an exhibition tilt.

Niagara County Legislature Chairman Michael A. Hill announced Monday that Niagara County has received funds from New York State Environmental Facilities Corp. (EFC) to participate in New York state's septic system replacement fund. The program is designed to improve water quality by providing funds to counties to assist homeowners with replacing cesspools and septic systems that are adversely affecting designated waterbodies.

Niagara County Director of Emergency Services Jonathan Schultz announced the New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has released a form to track damages from the heavy rainfall and flash flooding events from July 28-29 and Aug. 2-3, 2026. The state will now be tracking all information related to the aforementioned.

The Niagara County/America 250 anniversary drone show saw a huge crowd come out to Old Fort Niagara on Saturday. It was an evening of music - with the Niagara County Wide America 250 Concert Band, David & Ginger Hildebrand, the 10th Mountain Division U.S. Army Band, and The MacKenzie Highlanders Pipes and Drums - and there were living history programs, food and camaraderie throughout the daylong Revolutionary War encampment prior to the lightshow.

The Niagara County Department of Health (NCDOH) has received confirmation of two positive rabies cases involving bats in the towns of Hartland and Lewiston. Samples were submitted to the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Wadsworth Center on July 22, and positive results were confirmed July 23.
