The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced the makeup date for the first lifeguard qualifier of the year. The new date is 11 a.m. Jan. 24 at Hamburg High School, 4111 Legion Drive Hamburg. Testing is required for anyone wishing to work as a lifeguard at any New York state park.
The Dec. 30 test for was canceled due to weather. The remaining schedule is as follows:
√ 10 a.m. March 21 at Niagara Falls High School, 4455 Porter Road
√ 10 a.m. April 7 at Lewiston-Porter High School, 4061 Creek Road
Prior to employment, successful candidates must be at least 15 years of age and must furnish proof of completion of CPR for the professional and completion of the American Red Cross lifeguard training, which includes first-aid, with a certificate for the waterfront module or equivalent courses. Successful candidates will also need a physician's certification of adequate physical fitness, including meeting a minimum base of 20/70 vision uncorrected in both eyes and be correctable to the 20/40 standard after receiving a conditional job offer.
Lifeguard positions in the Niagara Region will be available at Beaver Island, Woodlawn Beach, Evangola and Fort Niagara state parks, and will pay between $20 and $24 an hour.
