Press Release
Throughout the month of February, FeedMore WNY is calling on its community partners to “spread the love” by donating unopened jars of peanut butter to support our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
Peanut butter is one of the most requested items by FeedMore WNY’s partner pantries, as well as a staple menu item of FeedMore WNY’s “BackPack Program” serving children in need. That is why FeedMore WNY will once again run its “Spread the Love” peanut butter drive throughout the entire month, with a goal of collecting 5,000 pounds of peanut butter.
Community members may drop off donations at FeedMore WNY’s warehouse, located at 91 Holt St., Buffalo, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Donations of peanut butter and food items may also be shipped directly to FeedMore WNY through Instacart’s Community Carts program.
In addition to individual donations, FeedMore WNY is calling on schools, corporations and community groups to get involved in the effort. Anyone looking to organize a peanut butter drive for FeedMore WNY is encouraged to contact Community Engagement and Events Specialist Betsy Campbell at bcampbell@feedmorewny.org or call 716-822-2005, ext. 3090.
“The reason we call attention to our need for peanut butter and hold the ‘Spread the Love’ drive year after year is because peanut butter is an incredibly valuable food donation. It is packed with protein, shelf-stable, and widely enjoyed by community members of all ages,” Campbell said.
FeedMore WNY also welcomes donations of alternatives to peanut butter for those with food allergies or different preferences, including other nut butters, sunflower butter and soy butter.
“We appreciate all varieties – creamy, crunchy, peanut butter-and-jelly combinations, and peanut-free spreads! All these donations add up to make a big difference in supporting our food-insecure neighbors across our four-county service area,” Campbell said.
