The following Grand Island response activity occurred Saturday, April 18, to Friday, April 24, according to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office. ECSO deputies handled a total of 2,204 complaints among its county districts of 15 municipalities, including Grand Island, for the week of this report.
This included 426 premises checks; 10 neighborhood patrols; 222 vehicle/traffic stops; 226 calls to assist other agencies; and 16 arrest warrants served.
“I will also note that over the course of the week, our patrols responded to multiple complaints regarding reckless operation of micromobility devices and dirt bikes across the county,” said Christopher Horvatits, ECSO public information officer. “Parents are advised to speak with their children about operating these devices in a safe manner.”
The following is a small sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.
Saturday, April 18
•Second Street, noise complaint – In response to a noise complaint, patrol requested a group of individuals keep their noise down.
Sunday, April 19
•I-190, traffic infraction/other – A 41-year-old Buffalo man was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation after a traffic stop.
Tuesday, April 21
•Greenway Road, accident hit and run – A complainant reported his vehicle was struck by an unknown pickup truck on April 14.
Thursday, April 23
•I-190, DWI/alcohol – A 44-year-old Grand Island man was charged with DWI after a traffic stop.
•E. River Road, accident-injury – As a result of a car vs. motorcycle accident, the motorcycle operator was ejected. He was transported to ECMC.
Friday, April 24
•White Oak Lane, suspicious incident – The complainant reported a broken window at her home. Patrol determined it is likely that the window was damaged by an errant golf ball.
