Historical Association to honor 5 community leaders at annual 'Lewiston Jeopardy'

Five distinguished community leaders will be honored this year as the Historical Association of Lewiston hosts its annual wine, beer and pizza “Lewiston Jeopardy” fundraiser on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Bella Rose Winery, 1243 Ridge Road, Lewiston. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the popular event, which combines local history, friendly competition, community recognition and fundraising for the Historical Association of Lewiston and the Lewiston Museum.

Tickets are $45 per person and may be purchased by calling the Lewiston Museum at 716-754-4214. Early reservations are strongly recommended, as seating is limited and the event is expected to sell out. A cash bar will be available, and a variety of special items will be auctioned and raffled throughout the evening.

The evening will begin with the always-popular “Lewiston Jeopardy” competition, a local take on the classic “Jeopardy!” television format. Contestants will face clues covering Lewiston, local history and Western New York, while members of the audience will also have opportunities to test their knowledge – with answers, of course, given in the form of a question.

Who will be quickest on the buzzer and take home this year’s coveted trophy and bragging rights?

Teams are now forming for the spirited battle of wits, and two are already set to compete. Joshua Maloni, Russ Piper and Mike Casale will make up a team sponsored by Yaze Antiques of Middleport. Ken Slaugenhoupt, Lloyd Draper and Dorothy Wedge will compete as a team sponsored by Rocco DelGrosso of RJD Development. Team sponsors make a donation to the Historical Association of Lewiston and the Lewiston Museum for the opportunity to participate, helping support the organizations’ continuing efforts to preserve and promote Lewiston’s remarkable history.

Following the competition, the Historical Association will recognize five individuals for their volunteerism, support of the Lewiston Museum’s mission, and dedication to preserving and promoting Lewiston’s rich history and heritage.

•Tom Deal — Volunteer of the Year Award: Deal will be recognized for his outstanding service to the Historical Association and his many contributions to the Lewiston community. Through his leadership, volunteerism and commitment to the Lewiston Museum, local events and organizations, Deal has played an important role in helping make Lewiston one of the most admired small towns in America. His community spirit and willingness to serve have made a lasting impact.

•Steve Brown, Brown & Company LLP — Business of the Year Award: Brown will be honored for decades of professional service as a trusted partner of the Historical Association, his generous support of its mission and programs, and his longstanding record of community leadership. Through Brown & Company LLP, he has consistently demonstrated a commitment to organizations and causes that strengthen the Lewiston community.

•Tim Henderson and Eva Nicklas — Friends of History Award: Henderson and Nicklas will be recognized for their dedication to preserving and promoting Lewiston’s heritage through their popular Marble Orchard performances portraying Josiah Tryon and Sally Barton. Through their research, storytelling and historically inspired portrayals, they have brought Lewiston’s past to life and helped new generations appreciate the people and events that shaped the community.

•Paul Lymburner — Bruce Sutherland Outstanding Contribution Award: Lymburner will be honored for his exceptional volunteer service in modernizing the Lewiston Museum’s technical systems, assisting with the digitization of its archives, and developing a partnership with the Western New York Library Resources Council. His work is helping preserve the museum’s historic collections while making them more accessible to researchers, historians and the public.

With local history, prizes, friendly competition and recognition of those who have contributed so much to the community, this year’s “Jeopardy” event promises another entertaining evening in support of the Lewiston Museum and its mission.
