In conjunction with the Grand Island Memorial Library, the Grand Island Lions are offering vision screenings for children who haven't been screened or may have missed the scheduled school and day care screenings. Children who are home-schooled are also being encouraged to participate. The screenings will be held in the library's Community Room from 10 a.m. until noon this Saturday, Feb. 15, and on Friday, Feb. 21.

The Lions Club stated, “Children's vision is important, as 80% of a child's learning comes through their eyes. Our experience indicates that nearly one in five kids do not see well. This is an opportunity to ensure that anomalies are caught early, where treatment is most effective. The screening is free, done in a dimly lit room to dilate the eyes, is contactless, and is completed in less than a minute.

“If a financial hardship exists, funds are available for medical exams and glasses if needed.”

To request a consent form for screening, or if you would like more information, contact LionTom20N@roadrunner.com or 716-909-1862.

Recently, more than 700 vision screenings for children pre-K to 2nd grade were conducted on Grand Island.
