Cold temperatures didn't keep folks from coming to Olcott on Sunday for the 56th annual Polar Bear Swim For Sight to benefit the Olcott Lions Club. This year’s top group – dressed as inmates – raised $6,675 for the Lions Club.
The day was filled with the usual zany costumes, and people had fun with tailgating, getting food on Main Street, and participating in the costume parade before the main event – jumping into the lake. Bills attire was a popular theme, with many people dressed in the Buffalo red, white and blue.
Due to the cold weather, the town had to dig out a swimming hole for the eager swimmers.
Along with all the costumed participants, Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti brought out a contingent of deputies and recruits to go into the frigid water and help the cause. Many people in the crowd watched from the terraces above the beach.
