The Friends of the Lewiston Library welcomes resident Michelle Ann Kratts, the Lewiston Library’s adult services librarian and genealogy researcher, in a discussion about beginning your search for family history.

Kratts is an author who has published multiple books, including "Haunted: True Tales of Niagara," "The Missed: Tales of Spirit and Tragic End at Niagara Falls” and “Niagara Falls in World War II.”

Are you curious about your origins? Have you been interested in researching your family history? There has never been a better time to discover the answers. Learn how to start on your own path of discovery today!

Kratts will discuss such topics as identifying the kinds of family papers and memorabilia with useful genealogical information. She will relate how genealogy is all about connections – the connections between you and your ancestors, between your ancestors and their historical context, and amongst all of the facts and records that together help to weave the story of your past.

The ultimate goal of family recordkeepers is to create intergenerational connections among family members. Kratts will discuss how to organize our histories, photos and memorabilia in a way that both protects these important items and is conducive to sharing their meaning – their stories. This presentation will explore ways of using certain records or collections of historic materials to the best advantage.

The free presentation will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth St. Doors will open at 5:30. Light refreshments will be served.

Call 716-390-8761 to reserve a seat.
