Jean Walck of Sanborn recently had her heartfelt wish fulfilled with a special visit to the Buffalo Zoo, arranged by Senior Wishes. Jean shared in her application that trips to the zoo were once a favorite family tradition, though it had been many years since her last visit.
To make the experience extra special, Senior Wishes coordinated a private meet-and-greet with one of the zoo’s resident chinchillas. Jean also received a gift card for the Zootique gift shop, allowing her to bring a few souvenirs home to remember the day. She thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with the animals and reliving cherished memories.
Senior Wishes grants meaningful experiences to income eligible seniors living independently or in care facilities throughout Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee and Wyoming counties. Wishes have included attending cultural and sporting events, reconnecting with loved ones, or reengaging in hobbies and passions. Senior Wishes also has programs to recognize area centenarians, (The Century Club) and veterans (Hero Boxes for Veterans). These two programs have no income guidelines.
To qualify for a wish, individuals must be age 65 or older and residents of Western New York. Income must be under $38,000 annually for a household of one or under $44,000 for a household of two. Seniors residing in permanent care facilities are exempt from the income requirement.
Founded by the United Church Home Society, Senior Wishes aims to bring joy, dignity and connection to the lives of seniors across Western New York – ensuring they feel seen, celebrated, and never forgotten.
