The Buffalo Naval Park will host a group of World War II reenactors from across the U.S. this weekend for a special event to bring USS The Sullivans and USS Little Rock to life. “Mess Call at the Buffalo Naval Park” will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at One Naval Park Cove, and is included in the price of admission.
The Military History Preservation Group, a nonprofit organization based in Ohio, is organizing the event, which will create an immersive experience for visitors. World War II-era food will be prepared from the U.S. Navy cookbook in Little Rock’s galley. with samples available to the public. The ship’s company will conduct general quarters and gunnery drills on USS The Sullivans.
Visitors will also be invited to write letters on period correct letterhead and envelopes, learn about visual communication with signal flags and lamps on the signal bridge, and learn about radio communications with the Radio Association of Western New York. This is an event history buffs and food fanatics alike will not want to miss!
