Committed to transparency, fiscal responsibility, community growth
Submitted by Paul Kloosterman
My name is Paul Kloosterman, and I’m proud to announce my candidacy for the Lewiston Town Board. As a certified public accountant and lifelong Lewiston resident, I bring more than 20 years of experience in accounting – including a deep understanding of governmental finance – and I’m ready to bring a fresh, responsible approach to local government.
I graduated from Niagara University and currently serve as vice president of finance and accounting for the Merani Hotel Group in Niagara Falls. My career has given me extensive experience in both private-sector finance and governmental accounting, which I believe is exactly what our town needs – especially as we face looming federal funding cuts. As a CPA, I know the importance of financial transparency, accountability, and making sure every dollar is tracked and wisely spent.
I believe it’s time for change in Lewiston. Our town deserves a government that’s open, responsible, and focused on fiscal responsibility. That means no closed-door meetings – just honest conversations, smart solutions, and decisions made in the best interest of our community.
My campaign is built around practical, forward-thinking solutions. Here are the key areas I’ll focus on as your council member:
•Fiscal responsibility – Making sure every tax dollar is properly accounted for and used efficiently, especially in light of potential federal funding reductions.
•Revenue solutions – Tackling revenue losses from sales tax declines due to increased tariffs, and finding ways to keep Lewiston’s economy strong.
•Responsible growth – Supporting sustainable development that helps families and businesses thrive without losing the charm that makes Lewiston special.
•Environmental stewardship – Working to reinstate the Environmental Committee and protect the natural beauty that defines our town.
•Community engagement – Implementing a 311 system to improve communication and services for Lewiston residents.
I was born and raised in Lewiston, and I’m a proud graduate of Lewiston-Porter. My wife, Kristen (Hollederer), and I are raising our two children, Paul and Lucy, right here in the same community that shaped me. I’ve been active in town for years, including as a coach for Niagara Pioneer Soccer and a member of the Fin, Feather and Fur Conservation Society (3F Club).
I’m running as an independent candidate on the Democratic and Working Families lines because I believe in putting people before politics. My commitment is to all of Lewiston – every neighborhood, every family, and every taxpayer.
Lewiston is my home. I’m proud of where we’ve been, and I’m excited about where we can go. With my background in finance, my passion for community, and a clear vision for responsible growth, I’m ready to serve and lead our town into a prosperous, transparent, and inclusive future.
