First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston welcomes new pastor

The First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston recently named Carolyn “Carly” Beard as its new minister, effective Aug. 1.

A native of St. Louis, she is an alumna of Princeton University and Harvard Divinity School, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in religion at the University of Toronto.

Sponsored in a three-year ordination process by Riverside Presbyterian Church in Niagara Falls, she has served in pulpit supply throughout the Presbytery of Western New York, preaching and leading worship in local churches in Niagara and Erie counties.

“God is doing good things at First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, and I look forward to joining the congregation in serving the Greater Lewiston and Niagara community,” Beard said. “With a rich history as the oldest church in the village, we have the unique opportunity to be a spiritual home at the heart of Lewiston, and to live out our calling to love our neighbors.”

She and her husband, Michael Vimont, are residents of Lewiston. where they live with their dog, Peaches; and their cats, Maui and Potato.

Beard will be ordained at the Old Stone Church at First Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6. A reception will follow. All church family, friends and community members are welcome to attend the ordination and celebration reception.
