Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Press Release

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has been awarded $28.4 million through New York’s Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program IV. The funding is part of nearly $300 million in state investments announced last week by Gov. Kathy Hochul to support 55 medical facilities across New York in improving infrastructure and enhancing patient care.

This significant investment will allow NFMMC to modernize critical facility infrastructure and preserve essential 24/7 emergency surgery services for Niagara County residents.

Planned projects supported by the grant include:

√ Replace the aging parking garage with a new, modern structure

√ Relocate departments currently housed in the existing garage building to updated, more functional spaces

√ Create a new, 12-bed step-down unit to support patients who need intermediate care between the ICU and general medical-surgical floors

√ Renovate the S-2 medical-surgical unit for improved comfort, efficiency, and patient experience

√ Install a state-of-the-art telemetry system to monitor 79 inpatient beds

√ Update and enhance the Women’s Health Pavilion to better serve patients and families

√ Modernize the surgery department and GI unit with advanced equipment and improved layouts

√ Enclose the emergency department’s fast track unit bays to improve privacy and the overall patient experience

√ Add new backup generators and an upgraded emergency electrical system to ensure uninterrupted patient care

√ Replace the boiler deaerator tank to improve heating system reliability and efficiency

NFMMC President and CEO Joseph Ruffolo emphasized the importance of this grant to the community.

"This investment represents a major step forward for health care in Niagara County,” he said. “It will allow us to modernize our facilities, expand vital services, and ensure that our patients have access to the highest quality care close to home.

We are grateful to Gov. Hochul and the state of New York for recognizing the critical role Niagara Falls Memorial plays in the health and well-being of our community."

The Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program IV is designed to improve patient care by enabling facilities to upgrade infrastructure, integrate services, and expand access to quality care across New York state.
