The Presbytery of Western New York Presbyterian Church (USA) has announced the ordination of Carolyn “Carly” Beard to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament. The formal ordination service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Old Stone Church at First Presbyterian Church, 505 Cayuga St., Lewiston. A fellowship celebration will follow at the church.
Beard was named the new pastor of First Presbyterian effective Aug. 1.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, she is an alumna of Princeton University and Harvard Divinity School, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in religion at the University of Toronto. She and her husband, Michael Vimont, are residents of Lewiston.
The Old Stone Church adjacent to First Presbyterian is the oldest and most historic church in the village, having played a significant role in the transportation of slaves to Canada on the Underground Railroad.
All church family, friends and community members are welcome to attend the ordination and celebration reception.
Parking is available on the street or in a large lot behind the church. Assistance will be provided to guide participants to the Old Stone Church sanctuary.
