Wings will take “Center” stage on Saturday, Sept. 27, as the second annual Lewiston Wing Walk will showcase the River Region’s take on Western New York’s favorite food.
This isn’t just a wing tasting: It’s a community-powered showdown where the public decides who serves up the best wings in the village. Every participant receives a scorecard to keep track of their favorites and cast their vote – because the awards are 100% people’s choice.
Last year’s event drew 69 participants and raised $1,800 for a great cause. This year, organizers are aiming for 120 guests.
“We’re excited to bring this back for year two,” said Chris Tepas, owner of The Roaming Table Food Tours. “It’s a flavorful way to support our restaurants and give back at the same time.”
“Last year we raised $1,800,” added David Seide, chief wing officer and the event’s originator. “This year we hope to top that – and help even more families through UPward Design for Life.”
Local restaurants will compete for Best Wing, Best Pair, and Most Unique Wing. Tasting locations include: The Brickyard Pub & BBQ, Gallo Coal Fire Kitchen, Cask + Cow, Tin Pan Alley, Apple Granny, Vincenzo’s Pizza House, Favorite’s Pizza, Casa Antica and The Lewiston Stone House. Eateries are subject to change.
Each guest gets a scorecard to track likes/dislikes and decide this year’s winners.
In addition, Lewiston Wing Walk will feature a special tasting of John Young’s Original Mumbo Sauce – and learn more about the wing origin story. Brewed & Bottled will offer drink specials exclusively for participants. A silent auction will feature gift baskets and a surprise autographed Buffalo Bills item.
Check in at The Lewiston Stone House, 755 Center St., between 10:45 and 11:15 a.m. Following a briefing and announcements, participants will meet with their assigned guide and head to the starting position. The Wing Walk commences at noon.
Tickets and more information (including a rain date) can be found online at www.lewistonfoodtours.com/the-lewiston-wing-walk.
A post-walk celebration at The Lewiston Stone House, open to the public, will include live music by The Woodroes, chicken wing-themed games, and the community trophy ceremony.
Proceeds will benefit UPward Design for Life, which furnishes homes for families transitioning from crisis or homelessness.
