Press Release
Seven Buffalo Sabres players came to Elderwood Grand Island to play bingo with residents on Sept. 26. Activity Director Katey Dulak said it was an amazing event.
The room was decorated with the Sabres colors – blue, white and gold. The players sat with a variety of residents to help them play. The residents and their families all had Sabres pompoms and were cheering loudly. If the resident won bingo, the numbers were read back and, if it was a good bingo, the Sabres goal song was played (and the crowd cheered them on). The winner could claim a variety of Sabres swag, provided by the team.
After bingo was competed, the players signed autographs and took pictures.
Dulak said she loved seeing the residents having so much fun, and the staff enjoying themselves. She said, “The Sabres players were so gracious, kind, caring, and really engaged with our residents. Some really became emotional with tears of happiness. One of the Sabres, Ryan Johnson, even took the time to visit a resident who was at end of life. He provided comfort, prayers and support to the resident and their family.
“We are so blessed to have had an opportunity for this experience to increase the quality of life of our residents! Thank you Sabres! You will be forever in our hearts!”
