Lewiston Council on the Arts Press Release & Images
What makes a hero? What do we value? Mythical stories have captivated us for centuries - shaping art, culture, and the music we continue to celebrate today.
The Lewiston Council on the Arts, in collaboration with the Castellani Art Museum, presents “Myths in Music: A Concert Inspired by Jessica Gadra’s Art,” a live concert of songs from Schubert to Sondheim that explores the deep connections between mythical storytelling and musical composition across time and cultures.
The program is inspired by artist Gadra’s current exhibition, “Fact in Fantasy,” which examines how mythical elements influence our understanding of truth and identity.
“Jessica was the featured artist for our 2023 Lewiston Art Festival,” LCA Executive Director Maria Fortuna Dean said. “I was so excited to learn that the Castellani Art Gallery is featuring her artwork – it felt like the perfect opportunity for us to collaborate. The songs we curated for this evening are wonderful – many will be familiar – and the audience is sure to discover new favorites as well. The singers and pianist are phenomenal! Jessica and I will be cohosting the evening, sharing stories and reflections about the familiar legends that shape us all – the myths we grow up with, question, and carry with us, for better or worse.”
This event, set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, offers a one-of-a-kind experience blending art, music and myth at the Castellani Art Museum. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children, and free for LCA members (email artstaff2@artcouncil.org for discount code).
