The Kenan Center Theatre will present “Marry Me A Little,” a charming and bittersweet musical revue featuring songs by Stephen Sondheim, March 20-29 in the Taylor Theatre, 433 Locust St., Lockport.
Conceived and developed by Craig Lucas and Norman René, “Marry Me A Little” brings together a collection of Sondheim songs into a poignant, dialogue-free story about two lonely New Yorkers navigating love, longing and vulnerability. Though separated by only a wall in their adjoining apartments, the pair spend a Saturday night alone, imagining connection, romance and possibility, but never quite finding the courage to reach out to one another.
Directed by Kevin Leary, the production embraces the intimacy of the Taylor Theatre’s 153-seat space. With a cast of two and a minimalist staging approach, the show places emotional honesty and musical storytelling at the forefront.
“A charming and bittersweet musical revue that features songs by Stephen Sondheim, the undisputed master of the contemporary Broadway musical,” Leary said. “Two urban singles share a Saturday night of sweet fantasies and deep yearning while never leaving the confines of their solitary apartments. It’s a smart, funny, sophisticated and moving evening.”
The production stars returning Kenan artists Sydney Conrad and Aaron Gabriel Saldana, who previously appeared together in “A Grand Night For Singing.” Both performers bring extensive regional theater experience to the stage.
Conrad’s recent credits include “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” (Philia) with O’Connell & Company, as well as performances with Lancaster Opera House and Starring Buffalo. She holds a BA in music education from SUNY Fredonia and currently teaches elementary music in the West Seneca School District.
Saldana’s previous roles include Moritz in “Spring Awakening,” Johnny in “American Idiot,” Albert in “Bye Bye Birdie,” Henry in “Next to Normal,” and Mark in “Rent.” He returns to the Kenan stage following his appearance in “A Grand Night For Singing.”
The creative team includes Music Director Patrick Towey, Lighting Designer Chris George, Sound Engineer Nick Stroczkowski, Costume Designer Vivian Del Bello, and Stage Manager Em English.
Running approximately 70-80 minutes, “Marry Me A Little” explores themes of vulnerability, fear, imagination, and the quiet ache of isolation. In a world where connection often feels distant and dating can feel daunting, the production resonates as a reflection on modern relationships and the courage it takes to let someone in.
The show is recommended primarily for adult audiences and will appeal to couples, singles, musical theater enthusiasts, and longtime admirers of Sondheim’s work.
“Marry Me A Little” is the penultimate production of the 2025-26 Kenan Theatre season.
March 20-22, it’s on stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Then, March 26-29, show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
