Niagara History Center press release
The Niagara History Center is happy to announce the return of its April lecture series held at the Historic Palace Theater, 2 East Ave. 2026 is the semiquincentennial, or 250th anniversary, of the founding of the United States of America, when the founding fathers put pen to paper to officially declare their independence from Great Britain.
To celebrate this momentous milestone, the Historic Palace Theater will host three lectures on aspects of early American and Revolutionary-era history that has a deep and lasting impact on the Niagara Frontier. These will include “To Answer the Purpose of a Fort, Just as Well: The Construction of Old Fort Niagara’s French Castle in 1726” by Old Fort Niagara Executive Director Bob Emerson; “Dishing Up History and Cooking Up Culture: Early American Culinary Fusion Along the Niagara Frontier,” by Dr. Erin Barr, Ph.D. of SUNY Buffalo State University; and “Before There Was A United States: Empire, Borderlands, and the Niagara Frontier” by Niagara History Center Executive Director James Lester. These informative talks will take place at 5 p.m. April 2-16.
Just as 2025 was an opportunity to learn more about and have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Eire Canal and its impact not only on Niagara County but to the whole of New York and the nation, so too is 2026 a time for us as citizens of the U.S. to have a better appreciation of where we came from and how we are continuing to move forward.
All lectures are free to attend, with concessions available to purchase for your enjoyment during the talks. We hope to see you there for evenings of learning and introspection.
