On Tuesday, Niagara County 1st District Legislator Irene Myers, 2nd District Legislator Michael Casale and Destination Niagara USA Outdoor Promotions Director Frank Campbell visited The Wicked Worm live bait and tackle store on the Village of Youngstown waterfront, where the elected leaders presented a check to the Niagara River Anglers Association. The funding, $1,250, will support a youth fishing contest scheduled for Saturday, June 13.
The free event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Youngstown public dock. Kids ages 15 and under are welcomed, but must be accompanied by an adult – and life jackets are required.
This family-friendly day by the water will connect participants with fishing equipment, bait, guidance for beginners, and prizes (rods, reels, tackle boxes). In addition, the Niagara County Marine Unit will be in attendance; and a free hot dog lunch will be served up by the Lions Club and Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti.

Myers, Casale and Campbell said the fishing derby is an ideal opportunity for youth to get offline, get outdoors, and develop a lifelong love for fishing – a low-cost, family-friendly activity.
The fishing contest is sponsored by The Wicked Worm, the Niagara River Angler's Association, Myers, Casale, the Village of Youngstown and Filicetti.
